Customer Reviews about Dr. Barbara A. Coulter-Smith, DO

  • I have been a patient of Dr Coulter-Smith for 17 years. She (and the nurse practitioners) have always been great. They are a busy practice, and sometimes she is called out, but then the NP completes the visit. I have no issues with her being called out for an emergency or to deliver a baby. I'm lucky that my visits are routine in nature.

  • I have been a patient of Dr. Coulter-Smith's for over 10 years. She has delivered both of my babies, one of which was high-risk and required frequent weekly check-in's for most part of the pregnancy. I also plan to have her administer the Essure birth control insertion which she came highly recommended by a medical professional who used Dr. Coulter-Smith and explained that she was one of the first doctors in the area who was trained in this procedure. I am very particular when choosing my doctors, the bedside manner is greatly important to me as well as the education and confidence my doctor provides. Dr. Coulter-Smith exhibits all of these things - and more. She is extremely easy to talk to, answers and explains everything thoroughly, she gives me very honest opinions of pros and cons on everything from medication, procedures, saving my baby's cord blood, etc. And thus far - she has provided me with amazing medical attention. If you are looking for a new OBGYN or to change from your current one, I promise you will not be let down. Dr. Coulter-Smith is a great find and I highly recomment her to everyone! The wait to get back to be seen by the doctor can sometimes be 15 - 20 minutes, but not always. I agree that the front desk staff could be friendlier - but let's face it, that is a hard position to find a bubbly personality for an employee. All in all - I think the overall office staff are effecient and I've never had a problem with scheduling, billing, insurance claims, etc. So, I am happy with the overall experience.

I am a patient of Dr. Coulter-Smith's. It feels as if the practice is far too big and manages too many patients. The front staff leaves room for a lot to be desired. They are curt, unfriendly, and don't seem to be happy to be speaking to you--this was the very first thing that struck me about this office. The wait times are also way too long. I go in for a sonogram and consult with the doc regularly due to a high risk pregnancy and my in an out time is always about two hours. Although Dr. Coulter-Smith comes highly recommended in the medical community, which does offer some peace of mind, it appears she doesn't have a lot of interest in making sure all of my questions are answered, albeit, I have a lot of them..every time, which I get is rather annoying. Therefore, I do feel rushed when I go in for my appointments with her. I also find that her approach is a little rough, which makes me feel as if I'm just a number and she has lost some passion is servicing patients. I also could live without her MA--who doesn't seem very knowledgeable or friendly. She is my husband's least favorite in the bunch. She is very abrupt. Her nurse Rachel isn't overly awesome on the phone, but at least she is not downright rude like some of the front office staff. I was recommended to Dr. Coulter-Smith by someone in the medical community as I am seeking to deliver at Baylor-Grapevine and needed a new OB who has privileges there, so I'm giving her a try. The jury is still out. I like that I believe she is knowledgeable and seems to have answers that I'm comfortable with , but we will have to see how the rest of the pregnancy and delivery goes. However, I will say that she has followed my high risk pregnancy very thoroughly and I don't feel like she is willing to let me slip through the cracks--even if I was one to let her. Overall, the support staff needs a revamp, they need to seriously reevaluate the wait times, and I would like to see Dr. Coulter-Smith act like she is more patient-centered by enjoying her time with her patients. Wearing a sincere smile goes a long way. Big business is not always the right way to go.
